At South Bay Golf Club, we love everything about this week—the shots, the stories, the tradition. And as we celebrate the final round, here are some fun facts and iconic details that make The Masters so special.
Did You Know? Masters Traditions & Tournament Facts
The first Masters Tournament was played in 1934—then called the Augusta National Invitation Tournament.
Jack Nicklaus holds the record with 6 Masters victories, followed by Tiger Woods with 5, and Arnold Palmer with 4.
The iconic Green Jacket tradition started in 1949. The previous year's winner presents it to the new champ in Butler Cabin.
The course is known for its floral beauty—each hole is named after a plant. Example: Hole 13 is “Azalea” and 16 is “Redbud.”
The famous Champions Dinner is held each Tuesday of Masters Week, where past winners gather and the defending champ selects the menu.
Cell phones are strictly prohibited on the course, helping preserve the old-school, respectful atmosphere.
No other major tournament has been played at the same course every year—that’s part of what makes Augusta so legendary.
The back nine on Sunday is where legends are made—cue Amen Corner (holes 11–13), known for producing drama and heartbreak.
The Masters doesn’t use traditional “rough”—instead, it’s called “the second cut.”
Winners receive a lifetime invitation to compete in the tournament, making it one of the most coveted titles in golf.
One Final Round, One Green Jacket
As we settle in for the final round, the pressure is on. Every swing matters, and with the leaderboard stacked, it’s truly anyone’s game. Whether a fan favorite pulls away or a dark horse makes history, Masters Sunday never fails to deliver.
